Zephyr Device - "Departure"
About the AlbumThis project started back in June of 2005. The three of us spent whatever spare time we could snatch from work and sleep to write and record this music with Andrew before he left for Japan in late August of 2005. We wanted to start a band that could only last a couple months, using the time limit to pressure ourselves to write new songs about our lives and the world around us. Through this project, we were able to experiment with different songwriting styles and experience those strong, sudden bursts of creativity that occasionally emerge when one writes under pressure. About the CoverThe album cover art is a specific commentary on a piece of local art, "Remembrance and Rebirth" - The Essex County September 11th Memorial. While it would be appropriate to eulogize the events in New York City that morning, something akin to a War Memorial is an unfit tribute to the thousands of people who lost their lives. "Remembrance and Rebirth" is wholly inappropriate, and unnecessarily indicative of American xenophobia, nationalism, and aggressiveness. AvailabilityThrough our label Tank Crash!, we're making "Departure" available in three ways: For $5 you can buy a CD (complete with lyrics booklet, liner notes, and art by the band), you can download the album from Mperia as MP3s for $3, or you can buy it one track at a time from Mperia for $0.75 each.
